Valve Surgery

Open heart surgery is usually recommended if you require a valve repair or replacement. This will be undertaken by a cardiothoracic surgeon. A number of valve problems can now be managed without open surgery. The options should be discussed with the patient, followed by referral to the appropriate specialist. They will then discuss the benefits and risks, which can be patient specific, depending on the condition(s) being treated.
